Not a single step back

"Damn, seems like I'm going to fail this one then", I smiled and turned to Ayase; "My head would explode if I even tried to read a book in one night!". He nodded and dropped his English literature books on the floor. "Screw this, see if I care!" he laughed.

After a few more minutes of laughing we left the classroom, because it was rather obvious that the "new guy" wasn't going to come back to that class anymore. "Do you think he was quite a badass when he started smoking?" Ayase asked me and I shook my head. "Not really. Would've been much more badass if he had lit the whole table on fire!" I gave Ayase a wide grin. He was no badass. He wasn't going to tame the students. I snorted. "That's true! Should we go to the roof and take a little nap?" Ayase pointed to the staircase to the left from us. "Sounds like a plan", we climbed to the roof.

"I'm hungry" I whined after an hour of sleeping on the roof. "You're always hungry!" Ayase grunted and turned so that he was laying on his back. "I can't help it! I need fooooood!" I stretched my words and sat up. "It's total bullshit that you never gain weight but you eat like a horse", Ayase frowned at me. "I know. But!! I can't say that I mind!" I jumped up. "I'm gonna run to the school cafeteria and buy some juice or something so that I'll survive 'till lunch break", I headed my way to the door. Ayase just waved his hand as I disappeared into the staircase again.

I was running in the hallway and out of the corner came the new teacher. "No running in the hallways", he noted as I passed him. I slowed down a little. "No smoking in class" I snapped back at him and then went on running towards the cafeteria. "Asshole...." I whispered under my breath as a reached the vending machine. I got my apple juice and started to walk back to the hallway. I was sneaking around like a darn thief just so the new teacher wouldn't catch a glimpse on me again. I was really beginning to think that the new guy was just a jerk trying to manipulate us students to do everything as he says.

The way back the roof seemed longer that normally and I noticed that I had fallen deep into my own thoughts and I was barely walking forward. I shook my head as if to shake away the meaningless thoughts and started to run again. When I opened the door to the roof I saw Ayase still sleeping and I sat down close to him and opened the juice can. "He'll quit before next week ends", I whispered to myself.

I'll teach you a lesson

''Okay, good morning everyone and welcome to the English literature class. Today I'll give you a brief summary about what were going to do for the rest of the semester and also a list of the books we'll be reading. Now, could someone tell me what books you've been reading during the past semes..'' My voice was drowned out as the students started chatting amongst themselves, clearly not paying any attention to what I was saying. Feeling slightly amused, I remember my own time at the university. ''So this is how it's going to be?'', I thought to myself. ''I know just the trick for this..''

Sitting behind the desk I reached into my bag, dug out a pack of cigarettes and a book I picked up from the campus library. I lifted my legs onto the table, and opened the book as I drew a deep breath from the lit cigaret. After a couple of minutes, the classroom fell silent. As I glanced from behind my glasses, I noticed everyone's eyes on myself. ''Good, it's working.''

''You can't smoke here!'', a girl sitting in the first row suddenly snapped at me. ''Well, since you're not respecting the rules, why should I? Besides, I'm not going to spend a lecture trying to get your attention when I have more pleasant things to do'', I replied calmly, not lifting my eyes from the book. ''Rules? What rules! You obviously have no idea what kind of a school you've gotten into!'', yelled a boy from the backrow. I slammed the book to the table and stood up: ''Oh I have a pretty clear picture judging from this lecture how things are. Let me make one thing clear: I'm nothing like the other teachers. You'll do things my way, or I'll fail you in a heartbeat. And if rules are a problem for you, luckily I only have one: you do as I order you to do. And right now, you'll keep your mouths shut. Am I making myself clear?''

All of the students stared at me in silence, with shock written all over their faces - except for the boy with the pink hair. Ignoring him I continued: ''Very nicely done! Seems that you aren't a complete lost cause. Let me tell one more thing: the only ones at disadvantage here are you. I'll get my paycheck in any case, and I couldn't care less will you learn something or not - it's your future at stake here.'' Turning over to the whiteboard I continued: ''Now, for tomorrow I expect you to read this book. It's only about 400 pages, so it shouldn't be a problem.'' As soon as the sentence was finished, objections started raining from the students: ''WHAT?! There's no way I'll read that! I have other tasks to do too!'' Doing my best to keep from smiling, I started packing up my bag. ''Well, if you can't even manage to read a short little book like that one, don't bother coming to my lectures. Class dismissed.'' With that said, I got up and left the classroom.

When you're in there's no way to turn back

"Late again?" Ayase imitated the teacher that had just rampaged on us about being late. I smiled widely and then sighed; "I really don't get it why they can't just tell us earlier that the assembly is not in the classroom? Not every student lives closer than 2km from school! How am I supposed to get to school on time when I need to survive the 5km distance every damn morning? As if I'll really start getting up at 4 am!". Ayase nodded and a wave of complaints poured down from his mouth. My attention span wasn't long enough to listen to everything that he had to say. I knew it all. I'd spend the previous 6 years listening to that crap even in middle school.

While walking back to the classroom I saw the mysterious new teacher talking to another teacher. "The poor guy has no idea what he got himself into", Ayase snapped me out of my own world. "I would assume so; if he did know he would've never come to this school. This school must be like the nightmare of all teachers. No one actually listens on the lectures, students bribe the teachers for good numbers, though we're not supposed to know that, I don't even know if we have any rules here since no one has cared about them in a long time...", I turned my head away from the teacher yet again. "Hey, don't we have English literature first...?" Ayase stopped no his tracks. "...You're kidding me?" I felt like I had just hit a wall.

Luckily for once we weren't late from the class and we actually got the chance to sit down to our seats before the principal entered the room. "Alright then. Students! Give a warm welcome to the new teacher in our school!" the principal waved his hand and the new teacher stepped in. "Okay then Mr. Hunt, I'll leave you to it. If there is anything you'd like to ask or otherwise, just come to the teachers office and surely someone will answer you questions", the principal gave a murderous glance to us students and then left the classroom closing the door behind him.

The new teacher, Mr. Hunt, seemed rather calm and composed as he organized his papers for the class. He wrote his full name to the billboard. Nathan Hunt, huh? I thought. "He'll quit before the week is over", Ayase whispered and smiled with an obvious ill intent. I nodded, but for some reason I grown an interest to this new teacher and didn't think, or at least hope that he'd quit so soon.

Target acquired

I took a seat amongst the other teachers just as the principal was starting the assembly: ''Good morning students and fellow tea-''. The speech was cut short as the doors to the gymnasium were flung open, and two students (the other with a remarkably pink hair) rushed in, gasping for air. As they realized their late arrival, the dynamic duo attempted to sneak into the free seats of the first row. To my entertainment their effort was noticed by the teacher sitting next to me, who stood up and loudly commanded the two to sit down. The principal cleared his throat, and continued his interrupted speech. But my attention was turned to the pink-haired boy, who seemed quite irritated under my gaze. He quickly turned his eyes elsewhere, while whispering to his friend.

''And now, please welcome our new staff member, Mr. Nathan Hunt''. The sudden hearing of my name caused me to snap out of thought. Letting out a deep sigh, I got up and walked over to the microphone:
''Thank you Kawashima-sama, and good morning to everyone. As mentioned, my name is Mr. Hunt and I will be teaching English literature for the rest of the semester. Born and raised in southeast London, I recently graduated to a professor of literature. After a few suprising turns I received a job offer from this university, and soon found myself packing up all of my belongings into brown cardboard boxes to be shipped into my new flat in Japan. I'm thrilled to have this opportunity, and I look forward to teaching you all.''

Followed by a few general announcements from the school staff, the assembly ended. As the students started dragging themselves to the lectures, the pink-haired boy and his friend were pulled aside by one of the teachers. ''Late again, Yamaoka-kun? At least this time you had the decency to show up! The same goes for you, Ayase-kun.'' The teacher went on to scold the boys harshly as the two stood silently, their heads bent with shame - or so the teacher thought. In fact the boys were hiding wide grins and holding back laughter.

''Mr. Hunt? Could you follow me this way, please. I'll give you a tour of the campus and the lecture rooms'', asked one of the school secretaries. As I turned to follow her, I caught the pink-haired boy stealing a glance at me.

Kiwis burn my tongue

"Oh my god, waking up today was way too difficult!" I sighed to my friend Ayase as we were walking to our classroom. "I was this close to just stay home for today", I squeezed my fingertips close to each other. Ayase laughed and nodded understandingly. "Well, you never really sleep enough, so really this isn't all too surprising! You always play games 'till really late at night and then wonder why are you so tired in the morning. How about no games after midnight?" Ayase rolled his eyes playfully. "Naah, I'm pretty sure I can find the meaning of life from those games, so I mustn't stop my sacred journey to find the meaning", I stated with a serious face, though keeping it serious was quite a job. "Coming from you I actually might believe that you're completely serious about it!" Ayase laughed and entered the classroom. "Hey, what's that supposed to mean!?" I shouted and ran after him.

The classroom was empty and there was a note from our homeroom teacher left on the billboard. "This morning the assembly will be held in the school gym, so make sure you'll be there on time!". Fabulous, I thought. "We'd better run, right..?" I grunted and Ayase nodded. We left in a hurry. There was only a few minutes before the assembly would start and we were at the other side of the campus. "Why is the assembly in the gym anyway? And couldn't the stupid teacher just tell that to us yesterday!?" Ayase blabbered. I was trying to focus on not missing a step on the stairs so that I's fall over. "You're the one who knows everything that's going on at school! Don't ask me! and besides, since you know everything there is to know about things going on at school why do keep failing tests and exams all the time?" I smiled and barely kept myself from stumbling. "I honestly don't know! I suppose the school subjects aren't intellect things enough to fit into my very, very fine head of a genius!" Ayase laughed. I didn't even bother to answer.

When we finally made it to the gym the assembly had just started and we tried our best to reach our seats without being noticed. Now of course with my luck a teacher just had to notice us and stop the whole assembly just to tell us to get to our seats. "Getting there!" I hissed and sat down to the nearest seats open. Ayase murmured something as he sat down but I  wasn't listening to him at all. I was looking at the stage where someone I'd never seen before was sitting.

The man sitting at the chairs next to our principal and another teacher looked directly at me. He seemed amused. "Haa haa, very funny..." I thought; "As if you've never been late from anything". I forced myself to look somewhere else because the gaze of that man was somewhat magnetic. It was hard not to look at him. "Who is that?" I turned my head to Ayase. "I have no clue..." He whispered and was obviously staring at the man also.

A little note from the writer:

To make things less confusing we'll put the picture of the character and the beginning of each post so you'll who's telling you the story.

Now let the story begin and the inspiration flow!

Profile: Nathan

                                                                  Character profile:

        First name:   Nathan

        Surname:   Hunt

        Birthday:   25th of October, 1989

        Horoscope:   Scorpio

        Hobbies:   Reading, drinking

Favourite foods:    Caviar, truffles and foei gras

Likes:   Old books and armchairs, theatre, opera, pubs

        Dislikes:   Being busy

Additional information:

Nathan is the kind of young man you'll find spending his evenings in pubs with a bunch of friends. He's very outgoing and social, but he also has another side to him. For he loves nothing more than finding an old book, pouring himself a glass of wine and retrieving to the silence of his library. He can spend hours after hours reading, losing himself into worlds that don't exist.

Nathan's life went over a major change, when he moved to Japan to follow his dream job as a professor of English literature. The culture of Japan is different in so many ways from what he had gotten used to while living in England. Since this all happened only a few months ago, he's still adjusting to the change and hoping that his moving boxes would magically unpack themselves while he's fast asleep.

While Nathan treasures the time he gets to spend with his friends, even the idea of spending time with his ''beloved'' family makes him cringe. The hatred between Nathan and his parents drove him to move to his own flat at the age of 15. Ever since that day he decided that never again will he be dependent on anyone else. That is why he is often referred to as a lone wolf.

Greetings from the writer:

Hello everyone!

And welcome to our blog from my behalf too. Now that the characters profiles are finally up, we can get the story going! Like LUSHI mentioned earlier, neither of us have ever done something like this, so I'm extremely interested in how this will turn out. But needless to say, I'm hyped about this project and I hope that we'll get readers hooked to the tales of Miki and Nathan.

There is no need for further explanations from us, since all will be clear after we get this blog running smoothly. So without further ado, enjoy our blog! We hope that you'll have just as fun reading this as we have making it.

Profile: Miki

Character profile:

First name:    Miki

Surname:      Yamaoka

Birthday:       7th of July 1993

Horoscope:   Cancer

Hobbies:        Playing games, sleeping

Favorite food: Chinese food

Likes:             Sleeping, games, many TV-series, food, arts

Dislikes:          Idiots.

Other info, etc:

Miki is a fairly temperamental boy who is rather social and yet quite shy. He has a kind heart and would give his life for most people. It's not all too easy to get on his bad side and you could see him as a very naive person. He trusts people a bit too easily and that gets him into a lot of trouble.

He hasn't really dated anyone, because he never really has seen anyone so interesting that he would've felt anything for them in that way. He has always pictured his life as normal and boring. He doesn't really bother to do anything about it, but he'd like to have something exciting in his life.

He is still a student (he will graduate in 4 months) and his studies are going rather well, though he doesn't really know what he'll do after he graduates. He gets easily stressed and when he's stressed he likes to be alone for long periods of time.

He has a lot of "friends", but he doesn't really spend time with them outside of school unless absolutely necessary. He prefers being alone and doing his own thing.

Greetings from writer:

Hello!

So this the official start of our (mine and Keara's) interactive yaoi/shounen ai blog thing. We are rather excited (or at least I am) about this and I can't wait 'till we get both of the character profiles up and for all of you to see!
I'm hoping that we get this blog running smoothly and I'll admit I hope we'll get a lot of readers. This is first time for both of us doing something like this (though I do run my own blog called: Giving love a bad name), which is making me a bit nervous, because I have no idea how well this kind of an idea will work and so on. This is kind of like role-playing with texts that I've done before many, many times, but this is just the first time anything actually is published for others to read.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that you'll enjoy reading this story that'll hopefully be awesome!

I have to go now... My laptop is giving up on me and I have got to fix it. *sigh*
